Hi, I'm new to the forum, but looks like a good spot for advice! I have a Case 2002 580M that has started to give me a problem. When you shift into forward or reverse and start to move sometimes you get a small series of jerks that feel like a hyd problem. It's not a gear noise. Any ideas on the problem.
That's kind of an unusual problem but just some thoughts, (1) Many times when there is a problem like you describe the supply pump on the front of the trans unit is starting to weaken, the bearing will fail in the small pump gear and reduce the pump to garbage. To check that remove the filter and cut it apart ans see if it is contaminated by shiny metalic grindings. (2) there is a suction screen under the 2 bolt cover on the right side of the tranny. Drain the oil and remove and see if there is any foriegn material there. (3) The other area of weakness is the snap ring in the modulator piston bore that fails and jams the regulator, most times that renders the unit inoperable but I have seen some slip rather than completely quit. There are plugs on top of the valve body where the pressures can be monitored and I would suggest a copy of the test procedures from a Case Service Manual be procured so you can become familiar with the operation of the system. Get back to us with more followup info. Mel.
Thanks for the post! Thanks for taking the time! My loader and hoe both are working good, my thinking is that the pump is OK. Have you seen a problem with the wiring cause this problem, it acts like the clutch cut out button is being pressed quickly. Thanks in advance for any post.
The power shuttle/ tranny has its own seperate pump which drives off the back of the Torque Converter internal to the bell housing, it has nothing to do with normal loader/ hoe functions. Have had numerous failures with those pumps and your problem could be a sign of more trouble to come. Of course an electrical problem could cause this but not to likely, The F&R handles rarely cause a problem but it is possible. There are 3-4 relays in the fuse panel + a longer time delay relay, you could try cleaning the sockets with electrical cleaner and treating the terminals with dilectric grease. The relay positions are on the back of the access door on a sticker. Mel
Go to the relays, listen to them very closely while the machine is doing it's thing. If the problem is electrical they will be clicking in time with the jerking
Thanks for your input! I changed the trans filter and oil and cleaned the wire screen. Both the filter and screen were clean! This is my first backhoe, the problem that I was having was not a trans problem. When the hoe was in at a certain point and moving forward or reverse it would move back and forward giving the feeling I had a trans problem. Thanks!
So you were trying to drive with the stabilizers down? Curious as to what 'position' a hoe could be in to make you think the drive was 'jerking'??
Hi, no I had the stabilizers up. My hoe is a older unit with 6800hrs and the pins and bushings have some play. When the hoe is pulled in and at just the right spot it moves just a little when you go forward and reverse. I move it some without being in the transport lock. That jerk movement gave me the idea something was wrong with the trans.
