Recovering a stuck D-8 at Sunderland Channel in the 60’s

Some of the notes say 1968, others say 1969. All of them list the location as Genest Point, Sunderland Channel ( Southwest Coast of BC, Canada ) The landing craft, Georgia Transporter delivered a herd of rescue machines to pull a D-8 that was stuck in soft ground at the beach. No notes on the company involved, or whether the rescue was successful. Sunderland Channel must have been quite the place for mischief...I found this while I was looking up details about the place... http://youtu.be/Wa1B9-vef_k

Any idea as to why the original operator would venture so far out into the soup?

Not the slightest idea. I do know that skidder and cat and arch loggers used to deposit their logs right on the beach in the pre-environmental days. Could be that, or a malfunction, on or off-loading from a barge ramp

Looks like all three pulling Cats had straight gears, which would agree with the time frame. The one on the right looks to be the newest, based on the ROPS. Outstanding photos. Thanks.

Yair . . . Something's a little strange here. It doesn't take that much suck to get an eight out . . . I reckon he may have been hung up on a rock, why are they sucking him backwards? In actual fact it looks to be pretty reasonable underfoot and (without knowing local conditions) wouldn't have issues with operating track deep in that situation . . . even though it is below the tide line and you shouldn't really be there unless you have to . . . especialy without back up. Cheers.
