Shuttle shift issues

I have a 1969 case 580ck hoe and am wondering why my shuttle shift wont hit neutral unless I play with lever enoughto find it. It used to go right in but now from forward right to reverse.Can barley find neutral.

    There should be a spring and a detent ball under your shift valve. The spring may be broken or too weak to help the spool find neutral.
