Hi all I have a Toyota SK8 with a J2 motor & when started the motor revs to the governor & I'm wondering if the problem is in the injector pump.
Disconnect the hand throttle link at the injector pump and see if motor returns to idle.
Yes it does
With the engine off and hand control cable still disconnected check that the throttle lever on the the injector pump moves freely between idle and full speed stops; you should feel some resistence moving it from the idle position and it should self return back to the idle stop... the injector pump is not a complex function; basically a single sliding toothed rack that rotates each injector delivery fuel meter piston cutoff. Make sure this control lever is in the idle position while running also; it may just be loose on the shaft?
Looks like it uses a Bosch VE injector pump... check the nut on the speed control lever is tight; not much else to go wrong there; but pump unit internal could still be faulty
