Skytrak loss of hydraulics

Dillon0608 · 2020-03-10 17:17

I have a 2001 6036 skytrak I drove it about a quarter mile and lost all drive and hydraulic functions motor runs and drive line turns to the transmission. Any suggestions on what to check first

Take the engine covers off and there is a quick connect to check pump pressure. Put your gauge on it and see if you got pressure out of your charge pump.

Sorry not engine covers. Your transmission covers...

Are you certain that drive line from engine to transmission is turning when under load?

Willie59 made a good point Check your drive line.

Yes it is turning when trying to use hydraulics or drive

Next step would be to check your hydraulic pressure on the test port. See what your reading there...

    I’ll do that tomorrow

Post your serial number too-that can help troubleshooting.

    Serial number 15539

  10. #10tractormech2020-03-10 23:39

    Ok thanks. Will it steer?

  11. #11Dillon06082020-03-11 00:24

    No

  12. #12tractormech2020-03-11 00:51

Okay. There's a splined coupling on the shaft that hooks to the hydraulic pump. It may be stripped since you say you have no hydraulic functions at all. That would be my first thing to check after you verify no hyd. pressure.

  13. #13Dillon06082020-03-11 16:15

    No hydraulic pressure

If you lost all hydraulics and drive then the flex plate between the torque converter and flywheel has failed.

  15. #15Dillon06082020-03-11 18:43

The drive line from the motor to the transmission is turning and the spines on the hydraulic pump are good

  16. #16Dillon06082020-03-11 20:08

    No but I will

  17. #17tractormech2020-03-11 20:21

I agree with Paul-check the flex plate-that would explain total loss of drive and hydraulics

  18. #18Dillon06082020-03-11 20:50

But wouldn’t the drive line between the engine and the transmission stop turning

  19. #19willie592020-03-11 21:17

Not necessarily. Under no load, all things in neutral, even a busted flex plate would cause enough friction to spin the shaft, but it wouldn't be spinning at the rpm being delivered by the engine. Likewise, even though shafts would be turning, they wouldn't be turning fast enough to develop any work.

You didn't post the machine s/n so we can't look up the configuration of your machine, but if your 6036 is one that does not have the torque convertor attached to the engine flywheel and instead is inside the transmission, and the engine and transmission has a drive shaft connecting the two, if that's the way your machine is set up, then with the engine shut down, if you put a pipe wrench on that drive shaft that connects engine to transmission, you should not be able to turn that drive shaft with the pipe wrench without turning the engine over. If you can turn that shaft and it does not rotate the engine then you have a busted flex coupler.

I'm talking about the flex plate on the torque converter on the transmission end of the driveshaft. There's a big cast iron cover and the driveshaft is in the center of it. Behind that is the flex plate.this is according to my parts book

  22. #22willie592020-03-12 20:05

Yep, there's a diaphram plate that connects the drive shaft input to the torque convertor inside the transmission as well as a coupler plate that connects the drive shaft to the engine, if either of those failed you'd have no drive and no boom functions.

  23. #23Dillon06082020-03-16 19:35

    Serial number is 15539

  24. #24Dillon06082020-03-16 20:04

I put pipe wrench on drive line and the motor turned with it

  25. #25tractormech2020-03-16 20:13

Sounds like it's sheared at the torque converter then. you could pull the hydraulic pump to verify the shaft isn't turning but with no drive or hydraulics I don't think I'd go through all that. Go to the torque converter.

  26. #26Dillon06082020-03-17 21:13

Ok finally found the problem. The input shaft bearing went out and allowed the torque converter to move forward enough that the central shaft came out. The last 3/8 inch of the shaft splines rounded off.

  27. #27willie592020-03-17 21:50

Yep, there's your problem. If things don't spin on the back side of the torque converter, operations cancelled.
