Soil stabilization – hints&tips

We are building a base for a silage pile, ~200x600. Fly-ash is being brought in as the stabilization agent. We do not have a mixing machine like most outfits seem to have when they do these jobs. Our idea was to grade the pad, adjust the gps for a higher elevation, grade the material, and run a disk over the material, followed by the water of course, re-grade, smoothe drum roller, and done. Anyone see any issues as to why this wouldn't work? Thanks in advance.

The work I've seen done was 30-36" deep on the mixing.

I've seen that tried........and I've seen it fail.........hate to see you waste time and money, it just didn't mix well enough or deep enough to work well. As for setting the grade higher we found it to be the opposite, whatever amount of fly ash you add, that is how much you lower the grade we generally cut it a tenth low, then after spreading the fly ash, mixing and compacting we didn't have to shave off to much. Good luck on whatever way you go!!!!!!!!!!
