so heres the deal.. im a marine mechanic and an operator at a boat yard and marina. We have a pettibone 36mk and the rear steer hydraulic line has developed a leak where it runs through a support band with a couple other lines. It either wore through or rusted as this portion of the run is hard line. I can't get a replacement line for 2 weeks but need the machine next week.. My question is, does anyone make or use some sort of compression fitting on a line like this. Its probably about a 3/4'' line. Is there any other means of temporarily splicing this line?? Thanks in advance..
In short, Yes you can get compression fittings and steel hydraulic tubing by the length to make your own lines! A good hydraulic shop or supplier should stock it! Hope this helps CPS
Cool I will check with some local shops.. thanks!
cps is right mrusso94. They make a high pressure compression fitting. It's made of steel. Do not use brass compression fittings, they can't handle that much pressure. Your hyd hose shop should have or be able to get the steel high pressure fittings. I've used them several times in a pinch.
in the past ..we've just left the old steel line where its at and just run a regular hydraulic hose along it's path ..Zip tie the hose to the old steel line and yer done ...
