T180 cold starting issue

Twisted Rock ยท 2016-12-09 10:14

I have a 2005 T-180 When it is warm out it starts without fail. When its cold out it spins over but will not fire. Used starting fluid but it will not catch long enough to get the machine started. No white smoke when turning over. Once i get it into the shop and warm it fires right up. Thoughts?

On a G series or K series Bobcat, when it's cold weather, when you power up the ignition you should see a glow plug countdown in seconds on the left panel display. The colder the temps are the longer the countdown is on the display. Make sure your machine is doing that first. If your machine is doing the countdown, pop the rear door open and check that you're getting voltage to the glow plugs.

Solinoid ? Thanks for the replies. I am getting the correspondingly longer glow plug countdown the colder the ambient temperature gets. It is now doing the same thing inside the shop. It will turn over rapidly but will not fire. I squeezed the fuel bulb once and it fired right up. I checked the fuel shut off solenoid and it's testing at 1.75 ohm. I am wondering if this could be a cause of the issue?

If you can start it by squeezing the fuel bulb.. its supply related.. changing the lift pump would be my 1st choice. Is your solenoid internal or external?? internal meaning you cant see it operate and is going inside the block. external meaning its connected to the shut-off lever on the outside of the engine.. If the shut off solenoid snaps-to, when you hit the starter.. that's not the problem. Sounds more like a drain back condition, and you can pump fuel up to the inlet and she'll bust right off.. Did you check the glow plugs?? Its a process of elimination, so get to it.. lol & just because you have 12v TO the gp's doesn't mean they are good.. it just means you have POWER going to the gp's..

if the primer bulb is "soft" that means you have fuel draining back to the tank, loose hose clamps, dry rotted external fuel lines cracked fuel pickup hose in side the tank bad primer bulb all can cause the same symptom, the fuel lift pump is upstream from the primer bulb and filter :drinkup
