I was hoping someone could educate me on how to adjust my steering clutches and where to look for the serial number on my dozer. I have a TD15C. Finally getting to use it to clear 40 acres and what ever else the neighbors come up with so I am liearning. Thanks for any help Tom
if you look in the engine compartment behind the dash on the right side( if your siting in the seat) there should be a plate with your ser number on the back side of the dash. if you cant find it there. there is another one on the right side back corner of the main frame right behind were the final drive housing bolts to the main frame. what are your brakes doing
the 15c does not have steering clutches like a cat. it has a large disk brake on both sides in the main frame that are applied with a spring when the levers are forward and that applies power to the final drive from the planetary. when you pull the lever half way back it releases the disk and puts the track in neutral so you can use the pivot brakes. Are your planetary brakes slipping or not releasing. that's probably not a very good explanation of how they work.
I have to pull the sticks all the way back to get the track to stop and pivot on other track. they seem to work better in reverse. Thanks TD15C for all the insight. Love my old dozer and finally getting to use it. Where is a good place to buy parts for it?
Also, where is a good place to get manuals for this unit. It's an 81 model year.
sounds like you need to adjust your pivot brakes up. to do that you need to open the door were your tans filters are or the one under your blade control lever. look back in there like your trying to see under the seat. and you will see a bolt with a square head I think it takes a 1/2 in wrench it comes out of what looks kind of like a clevis it has a lock nut on it takes a 5/8 or 11/16. loosen lock then tighten the bolt with the square head till your steering levers move forward enough that you have brakes. but be careful not to go to much or your planetary brakes wont release and your track wont go in to neutral when the lever gets to half way. if there are no threads left on the adjusting bolt you pivot brakes are worn out.
this is the adjuster I tried to circle it but its hard to see
Perfect. Thank. You!!!!
