Terex pt60 vs Newholland c227

manac ยท 2013-02-15 22:13

I'm looking at buying a new skid steer I have a asv rc 60 now and want to upgrade but was wondering if anyone has some experience with a c227 it will be used for mostly landscaping . The reason I'm looking at theres brands is because they are the only two where i live all other brand dealers are approx. 2 hrs away.I like my rc 60 but a new pt 60 is approx. 10000 more than a c227 is a terex really that much better to demand a 20% premium? Can't seem to find much info on them. Thanks

The difference is really the undercarriage. The ASV will do much better in the snow, it will be a more smooth ride and much quieter. The ASV track design will be least impactful on established yards between the two. The NH undercarriage wont be as finicky in the type of ground conditions you put it in as the ASV. The undercarriage will be cheaper to maintain. Bridgestone does make tracks called Polar Tracks for CTLs that are supposed to make them more effective in the Winter. Have you demoed the NH?

No I haven't they don't have any in stock .The biggest problem I have with the asv is the cab it primitive, loud ,and cramped other than that I really like the machine. How are the NH for the tracks freezing up after running in the snow? the asv I had to dump rv antifreeze on the tracks and rotate them a few time to ensure i could move it the next day

If you're having problems with the ASV undercarriage freezing, you will have problems with the NH undercarriage freezing. As KSSS stated, the ASV is better in the snow, probably, the best is the industry. It is true that there are now snow tracks available for CTLs, but this won't prevent the undercarriage from freezing. Some find it a PITA to change tracks from season to season, and you need to factor this cost of another set of tracks into the aquisition cost of the new machine. It would be real hard for me to buy a machine, at most any cost (especially new), without being able to demonstrate it in my applications on one of my jobsites. Good luck in your search.

I'm using the Polar Track on my CTL year around now compared to the C-pattern tracks and love them. They are holding up very good. With that said i work more in the mud and dirt. What i like for my application is the traction i get in the mud with the more aggressive tread on the Polar Tracks. It's been really dry here last year and the tracks have been on all last year and shows hardly any wear.Again we're talking mud early spring and dry, (hard concrete dry dirt) later on.I was surprise are how good they have been doing ,i thought they might have more cuts and chunky because of the design of tread. Actually they was cheaper at the time then the C-pattern tracks. For my use they will be my choice from now on.I don't do snow ,but what little we have used them in snow they are like day and night from the regulars factory treaded track. If you talk to your dealer you might be able to order the Polar Track straight from the factory on your machine. No extra cost. Can't comment on use in gravel or on concrete, other then our hard concrete ground this summer.Good luck

Thats interesting info on the Polar tracks. I also was expecting them to be of a more soft compound and would wear rather quickly. The CNH cab on the 200 series NH and CASE Alpha is really nice. On a personal note where have you been for the last couple years Construct'O? Did you take an internet Sebatical?

Got to see a 227 yesterday they had a used one there but could not run it something the about the control panel needed a recall completed on it is what he told me also looked at a 232 i think the visibility is better on the 232 a bit heavier .Its hard to compare to the terex since the dealers around here wont stock much for machines they want you to order everything unless theres a used one there.

Last winter worked nearly everyday and busy with lots of big jobs.Different story this winter, did start backup today ,but they are calling for 11 inches of snow here Thrusday. Plus on the other site it just didn't like my old dialup computer connection. They have changed their site and now i can post without killing my computer. And yes the Polar Tread tracks are working great for me.As you know my work situration is different then other.
