Thinning bar video

.RC. ยท 2024-06-17 04:14

I got the Mk2 thinning bar finished some weeks ago and it has finally been put into action sorting out some regrowth. I think they would be the bees knees for people with a woody weed problem with just a single dozer. Gets rid of the need to find a second dozer and chain, and probably does a better job then a chain in some ways. A direct drive D7G pulling it. It is nearly 6 minutes long, 385MB download. thinning bar.mp4

Cool! Is it just weight that scrubs the ground ?

Yes just the weight, it is two pieces of a very heavy squat rail line with a very heavy walled (around 3/4" thick) 6" or so OD drill rod between the two. So essentially all the weight sits on the drill rod which is not going to be ideal long term, but we have a plan for when the drill rods starts to wear. It would be running close to 500lb's per yard weight or more, each section is 10 feet long.

Great video. Just curious. What's land like that used for?

Cool piece!! Brilliant to hinge the sections, can see it follows the contours of the terrain.

Once you fold it over, it dies? Around here it would mostly come back with a bend in it.

No, it will come back. This was pulled with a chain probably fourteen years ago. It is high quality cattle country. It was a barely reasonable wet season and now there has been no rain for a couple of months so it does not look it's best at the moment. The bushes (brigalow trees) are native legumes and when first cleared the productivity was outstanding. The idea here is not to kill off the bushes, but simply knock them back to ground level. They are not easy trees to kill.
