Hello members, some assistance is welcome on an issue am having with my dozer, after working the machine for about 30 minutes, the engine power will decrease and the torque converter will quickly overheat, what I've found out so far is that the converter housing is flooding with oil and some of it starts leaking through the starter motor,i drained almost 40lts of transmission oil from the TC housing which is unusual because on last service only around 10lts of oil came out,my guess is that the excess oil is straining the engine and leading to loss of power, the pipe on the left is pushing the oil from the pump to the valve and the right is supposed to push oil to the TC,so the front and back valve were stuck and am guessing oil was constantly being pushed to the TC,not sure which valve is supposed to regulate the amount going to the front,i serviced the valves and the machine worked well for 5 hours and the temperature barely rose beyond 60°C,next day the machine got back to the same problem of overheating and flooding the housing, I've also inspected the scavenger pump and all seems well,am yet to inspect the valve behind the TC housing, not sure what valve it is, I'd like to know the individual function of the transmission control valve and the valve behind the TC housing and that way maybe i can narrow down to where the problem is,the charge pump has sufficient pressure so my issue kind of leans towards oil overflow or a valve misbehaving, someone please explain the working mechanism of the above, regards.
It might help if you indicated what make & model of machine you are referring to. The photo in your avatar is a bit on the small side. A Serial Number would also not go amiss. As a starter have you considered the possibility that leaking seals in the torque converter are flooding the housing.?
Thanks Nige,make/model HBXG 165-2, i haven't considered the torque seals but i will look at it, although after cleaning the stuck transmission control valve the TC housing didn't flood and worked well for 5hrs only for the problem to reoccur again the next day.
