i've got ford 555 backhoe and it will only drive on flat ground or if the back wheels is higher then the front wheels and if you drive up hill you will loose all drive. it seems like the oil supply is running out if you are facing up hill. so in
The obvious question is, have you check the oil level? Probably did but no mention of it. Did this just start and how long have you owned the hoe?
yeah i have check the the oil and had spoke to a guy and he said that if when it does drive is it okay which it was, so he told me that some of the those fords used to drop the mesh filter on the end of the oil filter. if that was the case would you know if you have to split it?
Don't know, but hopefully someone which knows more about the Fords will
You need to slow down and start eliminating possible problems. The shuttle is part of the transmission and shares oil with the gear box. If you think the oil is running out of the transmission when you are on a hill, park it on a hill or lift the front end up with the loader bucket and check the oil level in the transmission. Take into consideration you are now on a slope and the trans dip stick will not read the same. Did it all run out of the transmission and back into the center housing. If not, move on. Its not loosing oil on an uphill grade. The shuttle has an oil screen. I don't remember a problem with them coming unplugged unless someone didn't install it correctly. There's plenty of pictures available for you to look at. If I were you, I'd buy a service manual and start checking pressures. You're never going to figure out what's going on without testing pressures when you're baffled. If you have to split the tractor and take the shuttle apart, you're still going to need the manual. Look here: http://www.messicks.com/NHC/64240.aspx You might have a dump valve solenoid energizing when you're traveling uphill. Crazy, yes, but it's one of the things that eliminates oil pressure to the shuttle clutch pack. When traveling uphill, when you ran out of forward motion, did you slam the shuttle shift lever forward. Does this make a difference. Linkages wear and gravity is working against you on a hill. There are things that can be accessed without splitting the tractor. You just have to know what to look at and in what sequence. Hence the need for the manual. I know this isn't much help but there's no easy answer given what we're working with. If you think things through and keep picking at the problem and asking questions, you'll eventually find the source of the problem. Hope this helps more than not. Forgot to answer your question. It's been a long time. From what I remember, the mesh screen is in the shuttle compartment and not in the geared part of the transmission. That means you can't access it from the top through the gearshift cover and the transmission has to be split to get to it.
Did this start suddenly or has it been something that's been getting worse over time? If it started suddenly I'd be checking wiring for worn spots, etc in the dump valve wiring.
its been going for a while and it has got worse.
When was the last time you changed the transmission filter?
+1 .
never
The filter should have a bypass. Never is about the change interval on most Ford shuttle filters. It would be a good idea to change it but I don't think it will solve your problem.
thanks for that
