Trying to ID a Caterpillar D2 that was donated to our Museum. Serial # 5U11061. Need general info on production date, model, etc. Any help greatly appreciated.
According to what I can see the D2 5U-prefix was built between 1947 and 1958. I suspect the "57-58" for the years built is a misprint. Why there are two slightly different specifications for the 5U I don't know.
Built in 1952 according to my resources. 1952 5U was S/N 8924-11285. 5U is wide gauge, 4U was narrow. ACMOC.org has tons of info on the old Cat stuff.
