Happy to report that my 580b runs great after rebuilding the lower using the reliance kit for under 800 bucks and sending the severely pitted head for a spray welding rebuild from diesel cast welders 900 dollars. After sitting a few days and temps in the 20's the engine started up in 15 seconds with no preheat or ether. For those that complain the 580B wont move for 20 minutes when cold, its the pickup screen in the trans, I removed mine and tested again cold and itr moved immediately, the tiny screen is restricting the cold thick fluid from being picked up by by the pump. I had made my own screen and it even had slightly larger holes than stock, I am now building a new round screen the size of a softball to aid in providing more surface area for the thick cold fluid to move through. Big thumbs down to all the trolls that sabotaged a great how to rebuild thread for the 580b with all their attacks and negativity
Great information about DCW, thanks. Those old 188's are good engines.
yep, dcw was great, and the reliance rebuild kit is a huge money saver at under 800 bucks versus similar kits going up towards 2 grand with no obvious benefit other than taking your money.
So following all my rebuilding, contrary to what some forecast, there has been no "metal on metal" damage on the engine internals, all the lower cost sources i used for parts proved to be the way to go, including the in frame rebuild kit. Rebuilt all the loader seals back before placing it in service, this week rebuilt the swing cylinders, and have just ordered all the other seals for the hoe, all are good but I am going to replace them all. Had one hose go on the top of the hoe for the boom, replaced three of them from a place that makes them while you wait, ran 300 bucks for 3 hoses about 8 foot total overall length for all of them. The right front wheel knuckle has a lot of weld on top of the kingpin nut, they welded the knuckle to the pin lol and all my use has broken some of their weld so the right wheel kind of slaves to where the left goes, so ill have to get a fix for that, power steering cylinders need rebuild, have to add fluid every week or so. 4 speed shifter just began rotating in a circle, i see it has a pin that must be loose or missing so i need to fix that, but the extendahoe has been a lifesaver, lets me do a lot of stuff we couldnt have done otherwise
