Recently purchased a 2007 Volvo EC140B, unfortunatley there was no owners manual, only the parts book. I can't get the hammer to work on the machine. There is a rocker swith in the cab with a picture of a hammer on one side and grab on the other. The auxillary pipes seem to be double acting at all times, with very little/no flow, they are also pressurised at all times, making it nearly impossible to connect the hammer. I have tried the switch in all the different positions. There is another switch under a cover on the left armrest, it also has a picture of a hammer. Any ides what this switch does? Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Is there a valve that needs to be opened? Anyone have a copy of the manual to explain the switch under the left armrest?
If it is like my ECR88 the switch under the left armrest has to be pushed once to activate the auxilery circut. Then the switch on the right hand council switches it between single and double acting. It does not sound right that both lines are under pressure all the time, but it could be that if the left "activation" switch has not been switched then the oil would be trapped in the aux lines making it seem as though they are under pressure.
The swith under the left armrest is a flick switch, hammer on one side, grab on the other, but it dosent seem to have any effect. It is grouped with two other switches, engine cutout and auto engine rpm if i remeber correctly. These switches are under a cover which has to be removed by taking out two thumbscrews. Why would they place a single/double acting switch under a cover on the left and have a switch on the right hand side with all the other switches? does anyone have any experience of using a hammer with a EC140? Anyone know what the reason for the switch under the cover is? Any help would be appreciated, it is very frustarating not being able to operate the hammer!! Everything else works perfectly!
Good day your hammer control should work by selecting the hammer symbol on the switch and then press the far right button on the right side RCV. You should then see the cab side hammer hose kick and hear the engine tone change. If you need more info or this is not working drop a line on www.Excatech.com will be happy to help.
Switch's beneath the cover one two position is for hammer one pump of large hammer 2 pump drive, not many had two pump drive so the switch does not do anything. Three postion switch is for V-ECU bypass Idle - racing - and kill in the event of an ECU failure the switch allows the machine to still operate but the dash board will be dead.
Thnaks for that. When the switch is on hammer, and the button on the joystick pressed, pressure can be seen to build up in the pipes and in the hammer (the point will push out but not retract). Seems that the return line does not let oil flow back. there is a valve near the hammer coupling, but have made sure that this is open. would there be another valve further back on the system? Thanks again.
The valve you need to check is near the hydraulic tank it should have two positions one select for shear back to main valve bank the other is what you need for the hammer direct back to tank. Be aware some users have connected the hammer up the wrong way round feed must come from the cabin side return tank side hope it helps
Sorry correction the valve on your machine is most likely autiomated it is like a retangle with two small connections and three large if you have this then the hammer return is automated by the switch selection. Dead end the hammer feed and check the pressure pump nearest to the flywheel you have a pressure check point.
There is a solenoid valve mounted behind the cab that controls the shuttle valve to return oil to tank or to the control valve. You will also have to set the flow on the display. The switch on the left is for 2 pump flow option. That switch should be in the single pump position. 2 pumps will destroy a hammer. Does your machine have a foot pedal on the rh floor? Also make sure the wires are connected to the bottom of the switch on the rh side. It will default to shear mode if unhooked.
