Hi I have a Volvo L120E, 2006 in year with the D7elbe3 common rail engine. The loader is down on power when working and wont go up to full speed on the road. When I stop the machine, start the engine and stall out the transmission it shows rpm of 2100 but after 40 seconds it cuts back down to 1760 rpm. When I stop the machine and do this again the same happens and there is no smoke from the engine its like as if you just hit a switch and the revs cut back. I have had the main dealer out to the machine with a Vcads diagnostics and it shows everything ok accept when the fault comes into the machine the high pressure fuel in the rail drops but doesn't set off any sensors or faults. So far I have changed the full set of injectors, 2 x high pressure fuel pump, Fuel control unit valve, high pressure relief valve in the rail, high pressure fuel sensor, low fuel pressure sensor, belt driven fuel pump, water separator fuel filter housing, engine ECU and vehicle ECU. Has anyone ever had this problem ? I would be grateful for any assistance from someone who had this problem or is very good with Volvo loader repairs.
Check the o-rings at the inter-cooler! i have seen these go and machine loses power! also the inter cooler itself can go pororus and lose power, but may not so much! Were you based at? Aiden
Hi Aiden Checked all these and the boost pressure is good, seems to be something in the parameters that cuts back the revs. I am based in Dublin.
1) check for oil level in transmission, if the hydraulic tank is low it goes in the tranny by the park brake, making the converter harder to turn. 2) 40 sec is long for a trans stall, are you sure the software is not cutting engine rpm cause overheating ? 3) Did all the temperature gauges are working correctly and did they show the correct values ? 4) Did the dealer took some pressure reading ? 5) As for parameter, check for ACO (maximum vehicule speed), BGS (time controlled high idle), FAX (P1 pressure cutt off) 6) take 3 bolts M10X90 and release the park brake manually, cap the hyd hose, retry the machine
I know Volvo had an issue with their main wiring harnesses wicking oil from the back of the head down to the ecu on the side of the engine causing a problem similar to this. Good luck.
Hi, as steve650 says check tranny oil level when running at idle,if overfilled this can cause low rim pull on m/c, 40 secs is way too long for stall test also and 2100rpm seems about right for stall speed.
Got this fixed now turned out to be a faulty engine oil level/temperature sensor in the sump. Compared the readings from a different machine with a vcads and the was a difference of 20 degrees so the ecu taught the oil was hot and cuts the engine rpm down. Biggest problem is the sensor won't put up a fault or store the error in computer.
