WA320 Reading Codes for Transmission or Torque Converter

AEER · 2019-11-01 18:39

Have a potential customer, that says there is no computer for reading codes. Machine is remote. Any simple checks if there is not a way to read dash codes?

This image here shows port identification. You'll need a test gauge and an 1/8" nipple. The list above shows what your pressure should be. Then you have the solenoid arrangements, to check power on each solenoid for a certain gear range. Good luck

Just to add a little to funwithfuel's information, there is no microprocessor to operate that transmission. The unit is a power shift with manually operated electrical shift control. It does not have auto shift capability and it is all done electrically. Basically a switch on the column is moved to engage directions and another lever selects the ranges. There is nothing simple in checking out that system. The biggest issue on all Komatsu wheel loader transmission control was the wiring harness between the cab and the transmission itself. Over time the the insulation goes bad and voltages end up jumping between wires trying to put more than two clutches engaged at the same time. The trans. just locks and the torque converter stalls. There is provision to manually engage each transmission pack by shifting individual control spools. It's not easy and more than a little dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. You will need a service manual but it will let you make sure if the problem is in the transmission itself or the electrical system. It's not a job I would recommend for someone who hasn't worked on more than a few wheel loader transmissions.
