hey guys, we just got a wacker neuson st45 from an auction. nice looking machine. starts fine, runs for about 5 seconds, then just shuts off. we had to drag it off the delivery trailer so we’ve never actually run it. has about 900 hrs on it, 2019 i believe.
Does it immediately restart? Cranks a while and starts? Starts again after it sits for a while? How many hours since last service? Oil level, air and fuel filters look good?
it doesn’t restart on its own, but you can restart again right after, but sane thing, shuts off after running 5 seconds. i have no service records, all levels and filters are good
When it shuts off; Is it sputtering out like it's running out of fuel, or shutting off instantly like you turned the key?
An engine model and/or injection pump model, picture, would help more people understand what you have. Although, if it's exactly five seconds each time, it's more likely an electrical shut off. vs if it's four seconds one time, then nine seconds it could be more possibilities.
doesn’t sputter. shuts off like you turned the key. it beeps after shuts off
Low fuel rail pressure will do this. Is the monitor showing any codes?
here are the code it puts up on the display right after starting
Service Overdue Light is lit! Start with changing all filters & fluids. If DPF warning light was lit before it shut down, DPF Exhaust will need to be disassembled & professionally cleaned. DPF will not regenerate with engine temp under 176 or 186 degrees. There are 3 stages to the DPF Warning system. 2nd stage was limp mode. You probably made it to shutdown mode. I cannot remember which temp but all my DPF Issues went away after using Diesel Force Products & treating every tank of better fuel with quality cetane booster. ST45 is a great machine! DPF REGEN may be forced if you can get it to run long enough to get over 186 degrees but it will have to be able to run at 3/4 throttle while cycling hydraulics to put a load on engine. These machines run cool without working.
Maybe this will help. I hope it is the correct manual. That SPN 1397 sure has me messed up. An spn 1397 in the protocol calls for this to have something to do with the ignition on cylinder #5. Obviously that does not apply here. However the FMI(failure mode indicator) all point to voltage high or shorted to high voltage. Without knowing anything else I would start with the pressure sensors on the machine. These are all 3 wire sensors. Maybe by unplugging one at a time you could eventually find the one that stops flagging the ecm for the shorted to high problem. Obviously other stuff will pop up with an unplugged sensor, but I’m sure only one of them will be flagging shorted high (fmi 03). https://www.rentalex.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/SW28_Service_Manual.pdf Also here is the Perkins manual for more engine specific info. If I’m right about what engine it is. https://www.dieselmann.no/files/Hån...Testing and Adjusting Section UENR0623-01.pdf
2019, and with Deluxe display so thinking might be second gen machine with Kohler diesel
Spn 1397, fmi 3 Injector drive system output short circuit to battery Same as P code P2148 If you need a manual let me know
