i want to get in to construction,what machine ddo i need to get more work
i started with a backhoe because it was able to do the most variety of jobs with a single machine.i could clean debris, dig ,load trucks, etc. and you have to see what kind of work there is in your area. like down south over here in the off season some of the avocado and mango groves are trimmed and i usually get a call to pile it up and burn it. i usually use the backhoe because it is way faster than the bobcat. or some times i get a call to go in a back yard spread some dirt or lay sod and my backhoe don't fit in the yard so i use the bobcat. talk to some of local GC's in your area see if they what kind of work they usually do and what kind of equipment you would need for them to subcontract you. when i started i would drive to sites for new construction and practically sell my soul to the project manager to get in. another lesson i learned is its way less of a headache to tell these guys to bring a dumpster and use your equipment to load it than it is to be out of pocket disposing trash and waiting for them to write a check .
Real depends on what type of work you want to do. Some times your best money can be made with a skid loader regrading someone's yard for 4 hours. Other times bringing its a mini-ex and a skid loader to install utilities. Backhoes are a great all around machine but I believe with the increase in size of skid loaders and mini-excavators have all but made them opsolete.
It is not so much the machine as it is the operator. To get a lot of work you have to be very good. Combination backhoe is a good choice, but if you can grade good with a skid steer that may be the way to go. What ever machine you pick, get good on it before you take any work. Word of mouth travels fast if you are good or not.
