ParticipantI have use those oil vacs to suck the oil out of an engine. I would rather drain the oil. How do you know that you are getting the suction tube in the lowest spot? They do have a place in certain applications.

ParticipantBy the picture in the beginning it looks like it is a JOHN DEERE not a CAT. ET won’t work on it.

ParticipantHave you did anything to the ignition system? You need to determine if it has a fuel or ignition problem. When it is messing up, put a spark checker on the plug wires and make sure that the ignition is not dropping out on any of the plugs. It should be electronic ignition but it will have a distributor cap and rotor. Spray carburetor cleaner into the intake when it is messing up, and if it straightens out you have a fuel delivery problem.

ParticipantNAPA and Standard/Silver Streak points and condensers are still good quality. You’ll pay $50.00 for a set of points and condenser though.

ParticipantThe mechanical voltage regulators now days are junk. It’s charging now but keep your fingers crossed, it might not last long. That is what is very frustrating about aftermarket and parts for older equipment. Sometimes you have to fix the parts before you can fix the machine.

ParticipantGlad you found the problem.

ParticipantHow are the dealers for those brands in your area?
Mr. Wrench
ParticipantSorry to hear that. You do have to watch some of those places. Some of them seem more worried about selling something than making sure it is what you need. Some of the people that answer the phone don’t even know.

Participant16V71 for power?

ParticipantYou could try this place https://www.jensales.com/search?search=john deere 410 manual They did make those for several years so you may have to look on John Deere’s service publications website to find the right part number of the manual and than search by the part number.

ParticipantThat was a good post. What do you use your battery packs for?
Mr. Wrench
ParticipantThat sounds like a good idea. I hadn’t thought about that.
